Job Description

We are seeking an Insurance Underwriter to join our growing team in Durban. In this role, you will assess and evaluate insurance applications, analyze risk, and make informed decisions on coverage. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of underwriting principles and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and agents.

Responsibilities

• Assess the risk factors associated with the issuance of insurance policies.
• Facilitate discussions between clients and agents to clarify policy details.
• Create underwriting guidelines and criteria for various types of insurance products.
• Liaise with actuaries for data collection and analysis.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss underwriting quality and efficiency.
• Mentor and guide new team members in best practices for underwriting.
• Regularly review and analyze claims data for ongoing risk assessment.
• Develop solutions to streamline the underwriting process.
• Engage in problem-solving discussions to resolve complex underwriting queries.
• Ensure written correspondence to clients maintains professionalism and clarity.

Requirements

Education

• Relevant diploma or higher degree in a related field

Experience

• 5+ years of underwriting experience preferred

• Fellowship of the Institute of Risk Management
