Job Description

We are seeking an Insurance Underwriter to join our growing team in Durban. In this role, you will assess and evaluate insurance applications, analyze risk, and make informed decisions on coverage. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of underwriting principles and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and agents.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess insurance applications to determine risk exposure.
• Consult with agents and clients to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
• Analyze statistical data to evaluate claims history and market trends.
• Prepare and issue insurance policies based on thorough analysis.
• Adhere to compliance regulations and company policies throughout the underwriting process.
• Re-evaluate existing policies and recommend adjustments based on changing client needs.
• Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and related documentation.
• Collaborate with claims department to address any issues arising post-coverage.
• Enhance underwriting procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Stay updated with industry trends and changes in regulations.

Requirements

Education

• Relevant diploma or higher degree in a related field

Experience

• 5+ years of underwriting experience preferred

• Fellowship of the Institute of Risk Management
