Job Description

We are looking for an Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will evaluate and analyze insurance applications, assessing risks and determining coverage options. You will work closely with clients and agents to ensure accurate underwriting and adhere to company policies.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate submission and make underwriting decisions.
• Monitor ongoing claims activity to assess underwriting effectiveness.
• Actively participate in market research and analysis to remain competitive.
• Drive process improvement initiatives within the underwriting team.
• Deliver presentations on policies and procedure changes to relevant personnel.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
• Mentor junior underwriters and assist in their development.
• Prepare reports on underwriting performance and trends.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, or a related field

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in the insurance field, preferably in underwriting

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of alternative risk transfer methods: Experience in assessing the viability of alternative insurance solutions.
