Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Port Elizabeth. In this role, you will evaluate insurance applications, assess risks, and determine coverage terms to meet client needs while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of the insurance underwriting process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments of insurance applications.
• Review risk profiles and validate necessary information for decision-making.
• Communicate underwriting decisions effectively to stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records of underwriting activities and decisions.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements within the underwriting team.
• Participate in training programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.
• Work closely with actuaries to understand pricing strategies and risk management.
• Assist in claims processing as necessary to aid in underwriting reviews.
• Engage in continuous learning regarding changes in legislation affecting underwriting.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting or risk management roles

Certifications

• Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA)
• Associate in Commercial Underwriting (ACU)

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Project management experience: Ability to manage projects related to underwriting improvements.
