Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

As an Insurance Underwriter in our growing Port Elizabeth office, you will evaluate applications and determine appropriate coverage options. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to succeed in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite applications for various types of insurance including life, health, and property.
• Conduct risk assessments through data analysis and modeling.
• Communicate directly with potential clients regarding underwriting decisions.
• Monitor existing policies and recommend adjustments as needed.
• Engage in continuous professional development to enhance underwriting skills.
• Work closely with the claims department to resolve any issues.
• Assist in developing underwriting guidelines for new products.
• Maintain accurate records of all transactions and communications.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or Economics
• Professional accreditation such as CII or equivalent is preferred

Experience

• 4+ years of experience in a similar underwriting role

• Statistical Analysis

Certifications

• Certified Insurance Underwriter (CIU)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Xhosa: Basic
