Job Description

The Shipmaster is crucial in overseeing the navigation, safety, and operational management of a vessel, ensuring adherence to all maritime regulations. We are seeking a seasoned professional with a strong leadership background and agile decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all navigational aspects, utilizing charts and GPS systems.
  • Supervise cargo loading and unloading, ensuring safe practices.
  • Conduct thorough safety inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Foster a positive work environment by encouraging teamwork and communication.
  • Ensure effective crisis management plans are in place and practiced.
  • Report any irregularities or incidents to the Fleet Manager promptly.
  • Maintain proficiency in maritime regulations and operational standards.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities for operational procedures.

Requirements

Education
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Nautical Science
  • Valid Shipmaster license from the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA)

  • 5+ years of experience managing maritime operations
