Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are looking for an Insurance Underwriter to join our Durban team. The successful candidate will assess risk, determine policy terms, and build strong relationships with clients. You will play a key role in ensuring that our clients secure the right coverage that meets their needs and protects their interests.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate insurance risks and develop appropriate coverage recommendations.
• Work closely with the claims department to analyze losses and adjust policies accordingly.
• Stay updated on industry trends and underwriting developments.
• Train and mentor junior underwriters on best practices.
• Develop strong relationships with clients to enhance retention.
• Assist in developing underwriting manuals and standards.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in a similar role

Technical Skills

• Insurance Policy Knowledge
• Financial Analysis

Soft Skills

• Negotiation
• Attention to Detail

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) - Underwriting Certificate

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Leadership experience: Experience in leading teams of underwriters in a corporate environment.
• Bilingual capabilities: Proficient in Afrikaans or Zulu can be an asset.
