Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our Pretoria office. The ideal candidate will assess insurance applications and determine appropriate coverage levels while managing risk effectively.

Responsibilities

• Process and evaluate complex insurance applications.
• Collaborate with loss control personnel to minimize risk exposure.
• Present findings and recommendations to management.
• Maintain accurate and organized underwriting files and records.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and industry training.
• Prepare reports on underwriting activities and performance.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, or related field
• Master's degree is an added advantage

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting

Technical Skills

• Insurance Software Proficiency
• Data Analysis

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) Certification
• Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Familiarity with actuarial principles: Basic understanding of actuarial science and its application in underwriting.
• Exposure to reinsurance concepts: Experience with reinsurance and its impact on underwriting decisions.
