Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our East London team. In this role, you'll assess risks, determine coverage amounts, and ensure the best insurance solutions for our clients. You will collaborate with agents and clients to evaluate applications, analyze financial information, and develop appropriate recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Assess applications from individuals and businesses for insurance coverage.
• Reassess ongoing risks and renew policies where applicable.
• Develop relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met.
• Communicate underwriting decisions to agents and clients effectively.
• Participate in decision-making meetings regarding policy guidelines.
• Identify potential areas of improvement in the underwriting process.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance Management or related field

Experience

• 5-7 years of experience in underwriting with a focus on personal or commercial lines

Technical Skills

• Underwriting Software Proficiency
• Data Analysis

Soft Skills

• Customer Service Orientation
• Problem-Solving Skills

Certifications

• Diploma in Underwriting
• ISO Certification in Risk Management

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of South African insurance regulations: Understanding of the legal framework surrounding insurance practices in South Africa.
• Experience with commercial underwriting: Familiarity with underwriting standards and practices in commercial insurance.
