Job Description

As a Certified Music Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in utilizing music as a therapeutic tool to offer emotional, cognitive, and physical support for various mental and physical health issues. This position requires a compassionate and skilled individual who can effectively engage with a diverse clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient needs and develop personalized music therapy strategies.
  • Facilitate music therapy sessions tailored to different client backgrounds.
  • Document the therapeutic progress of clients comprehensively.
  • Engage with the healthcare team to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Educate staff and families on the benefits of music therapy.
  • Research and implement new music therapy modalities.
  • Mentor music therapy interns and volunteers.
  • Conduct workshops on the therapeutic use of music.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of music therapy in treatment plans.
  • Foster relationships with community organizations for outreach programs.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy or a related field
  • Registered with the South African Music Therapy Association (SAMTA)
Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years' supervised clinical experience in music therapy is required.
