Structural Engineer

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a skilled Structural Engineer who is proficient in delivering effective design solutions for various projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that all structural elements are built to specifications, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the work of junior engineers and technicians.
• Prepare specifications for materials and elevate project quality standards.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential design flaws.
• Ensure all structural elements are designed to withstand various loads and stresses.
• Provide creative input and solutions during project ideation.
• Coordinate with municipal bodies for project approvals and permits.
• Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes impacting structural engineering.

Requirements

Education

• BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Postgraduate qualification is advantageous.

Experience

• At least 7 years of relevant experience in structural design.

Technical Skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Project Management Software

• Leadership
• Negotiation

Certifications

• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
• Six Sigma Certification

Languages

• Afrikaans: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of building information modeling (BIM): Experience with collaborative BIM tools and practices.
• Understanding of seismic design standards: Familiarity with structures designed to accommodate seismic activity.
