Job Description

Looking for an experienced Insurance Underwriter to analyze risk and determine coverage limits. You will work directly with clients to assess their needs and make informed underwriting decisions in our Port Elizabeth office.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough reviews of insurance applications and risk assessments.
• Decide on coverage limits and premiums based on underwriting guidelines.
• Interact with clients to address questions and reach decisions.
• Modify existing insurance policies based on new information.
• Assist in developing company policies and strategies.
• Monitor regulatory compliance and risk management practices.
• Participate in underwriting meetings and discussions.
• Provide training and mentorship to new underwriting staff.
• Evaluate functions and make suggestions for process improvements.
• Communicate changes in underwriting practices to teams.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Experience

• 5+ years of relevant experience in underwriting

Technical Skills

• Risk Assessment
• Insurance Software Proficiency

Soft Skills

• Negotiation Skills
• Team Collaboration

Certifications

• Associate in Risk Management (ARM)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of alternative risk management techniques: Familiarity with different approaches in risk assessment.
• Leadership experience: Prior experience in leading project teams or mentoring junior staff.
