Job Description

As an Insurance Underwriter, you will assess insurance applications, evaluate risks, and determine policy terms. This role is crucial in ensuring that our clients receive adequate coverage and that the company maintains profitability. You will collaborate with agents and clients, providing them with crucial feedback and service on their insurance needs. Strong analytical skills and an understanding of the insurance industry are essential to thrive in this role.

Responsibilities

• Analyze financial and statistical data to assess risks involved with policies.
• Make decisions on underwriting applications, including acceptance and rejection.
• Liaise with clients to clarify their needs and help them understand policy conditions.
• Track, manage and renew existing policy coverage as required.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss underwriting challenges and achievements.
• Work with client service teams to ensure satisfaction and smooth transitions.
• Mentor junior underwriters to foster growth within the team.
• Review and assess claims to detect fraudulent activity.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or related field

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting

Certifications

• Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA)
• Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)
