Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing insurance applications, determining coverage and premiums, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. This role requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of risk assessment in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze applications to determine risk levels and coverage terms.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance underwriting practices.
  • Prepare documentation and reports for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Address and resolve issues related to client policies or claims.
  • Participate in ongoing education to stay informed on underwriting standards.
  • Advise on risk management strategies for complex cases.
  • Develop relationships with clients and agents to foster trust.
  • Engage in market analysis to adjust policies and premiums.
  • Support the continuous improvement of underwriting tools and technology.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current underwriting programs and suggest improvements.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Relevant professional insurance designations are a plus
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in underwriting or related fields
