Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our Durban team. The successful applicant will assess insurance applications, evaluate risks, and prepare proposals that meet both client needs and company standards. You will play a crucial role in ensuring our underwriting guidelines are followed while managing rights and obligations effectively.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and analyze insurance applications to determine coverage eligibility.
• Assess risks and create appropriate underwriting strategies.
• Prepare insurance proposals and negotiate terms with clients.
• Collaborate with sales teams to provide technical expertise.
• Stay current with market trends and regulatory changes impacting underwriting.
• Maintain detailed records of underwriting decisions and processes.
• Identify potential fraud or discrepancies in applications.
• Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters.
• Review claims to ensure proper adherence to underwriting guidelines.
• Assist in developing new underwriting policies and procedures.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or related field
• Relevant insurance qualifications are preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years in underwriting with direct exposure to risk evaluation
