Underwriter

Job Description

We are looking for an Underwriter to assess risk and evaluate insurance applications within our dynamic Durban team. The successful candidate will have a strong analytical background and a keen eye for detail, allowing them to effectively manage policies and client needs.

Responsibilities

• Assess and analyze insurance risk and market conditions.
• Make recommendations for policy terms and conditions based on risk evaluation.
• Ensure effective communication with agents and clients regarding underwriting decisions.
• Monitor and evaluate the underwriting process for efficiency.
• Provide insights and recommendations for underwriting guidelines.
• Participate in cross-training initiatives within the company.
• Improve underwriting workflows through innovative practices.
• Support the implementation of technical underwriting tools.
• Actively participate in team meetings for continuous improvement.
• Conduct training for brokers regarding new insurance products and systems.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance or Risk Management
• Postgraduate qualifications in finance or law are a plus

Experience

• Minimum 4 years of experience in underwriting roles

• Underwriting Software Proficiency

Certifications

• Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certificate
• Fellow of the Insurance Institute (FII)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• isiZulu: Intermediate

• Familiarity with personal lines of insurance.: Insight into individual policy coverage such as home and auto insurance.
