Job Description

We are looking for an Underwriter to assess risk and evaluate insurance applications within our dynamic Durban team. The successful candidate will have a strong analytical background and a keen eye for detail, allowing them to effectively manage policies and client needs.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate insurance applications and determine coverage eligibility.
• Assess risk and develop pricing strategies for policies.
• Collaborate with sales teams to provide tailored insurance solutions.
• Review and analyze market trends to stay ahead of competitors.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
• Prepare and present underwriting reports and recommendations.
• Provide high-level customer service to policyholders.
• Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions.
• Work with claims teams to assess risk and service issues.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance underwriting skills.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance or Risk Management
• Postgraduate qualifications in finance or law are a plus

Experience

• Minimum 4 years of experience in underwriting roles

• Underwriting Software Proficiency

Certifications

• Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certificate
• Fellow of the Insurance Institute (FII)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• isiZulu: Intermediate

• Experience working with agricultural insurance policies.: Experience in underwriting pertaining to farm and crop insurance products.
