Job Description

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented Underwriter to join our Durban team. As an Underwriter, you will evaluate insurance applications, assess risks, and determine coverage terms on policies. The ideal candidate will possess a keen analytical mind, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of underwriting principles in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and rate insurance applications for various types of coverage.
• Maintain accurate and detailed underwriting files.
• Develop pricing strategies based on risk assessment findings.
• Act as a mentor for junior underwriters, providing guidance and support.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines in underwriting processes.
• Respond to underwriting-related inquiries in a timely manner.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance expertise.
• Work collaboratively to resolve underwriting disputes and appeals.

Requirements

Education

• Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field
• Professional certifications such as CPCU are desirable

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive experience in underwriting roles

• Experience with Risk Assessment Models: Familiarity with software used for risk modeling.
