Underwriter

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented Underwriter to join our Durban team. As an Underwriter, you will evaluate insurance applications, assess risks, and determine coverage terms on policies. The ideal candidate will possess a keen analytical mind, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of underwriting principles in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate applications to determine risk and underwrite policies accordingly.
• Communicate effectively with agents and clients to negotiate terms.
• Prepare detailed reports on underwriting decisions and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with the sales team to support policy sales.
• Improve existing underwriting guidelines based on market feedback.
• Conduct periodic reviews of client portfolios.
• Monitor and report on industry trends and pricing strategies.
• Assist in training new underwriting staff.

Requirements

Education

• Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field
• Professional certifications such as CPCU are desirable

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive experience in underwriting roles

• Experience with Risk Assessment Models: Familiarity with software used for risk modeling.
