Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Port Elizabeth. The ideal candidate will have experience in reviewing insurance applications, assessing risk, and making informed decisions to protect the company from potential losses.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough risk assessments on potential clients based on submitted applications.
• Collaborate with claims and sales departments to resolve underwriting issues.
• Stay informed about insurance products and services to provide expert advice.
• Evaluate client financial information and historical data for accurate underwriting decisions.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of underwriting guidelines and best practices.
• Manage and file all documentation related to underwriting activities.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, or related discipline
• Relevant insurance designations are highly recommended

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting or risk assessment roles

• Underwriting Software Proficiency
• Risk Assessment

• Negotiation Skills
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Associate in Underwriting (AU)
• Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Xhosa: Conversational

• Experience in customer service: Background in customer service is beneficial for client interactions.
