Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Durban. The successful candidate will evaluate and analyze insurance applications and risks, working to ensure comprehensive coverage for our clients while maintaining the company's profitability.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed evaluations of insurance proposals and the associated risks.
• Utilize underwriting software to analyze data and make informed decisions.
• Provide guidance and recommendations to management regarding risk management.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.
• Participate in underwriting meetings to discuss complex cases.
• Provide training and mentorship to new staff members.
• Analyze industry reports and statistics to refine underwriting strategies.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, or related field

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in the insurance sector, preferably in underwriting

• Underwriting Principles

• Teamwork

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) Certification
• Relevant insurance certifications preferred

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Proficiency in financial analysis: Ability to analyze financial statements and documents pertinent to underwriting.
