Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Insurance Underwriter to join our Durban team. In this role, you will assess risk, evaluate insurance applications, and help develop policies that meet our clients' needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset and a thorough understanding of the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

• Review insurance applications for accuracy and completeness.
• Determine pricing based on the applicant's risk profile.
• Provide guidance to agents on underwriting policies.
• Investigate complex claims and determine validity.
• Develop risk assessment models to aid decision-making.
• Assist in policy development and improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to team meetings to promote knowledge sharing.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Risk Management
• A master's degree would be advantageous

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting and risk analysis

Technical Skills

• Insurance Software Proficiency
• Risk Assessment

Soft Skills

• Problem-Solving
• Negotiation Skills

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with Claims Processing: Knowledge in processing claims and understanding their implications on underwriting decisions.
• Background in Financial Analysis: Experience with financial analysis within the insurance sector.
