Job Description

We are looking for an Insurance Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, with experience in evaluating risks and ensuring compliance with underwriter guidelines. This role involves assessing insurance applications, determining coverage amounts, and devising risk-inclusive strategies to offer competitive premiums.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate terms within underwriting guidelines to optimize client retention.
• Monitor industry trends and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
• Prepare reports on underwriting activities and financial impacts.
• Train and mentor junior underwriters in policy analysis and risk evaluation.
• Present findings to senior management for strategic planning.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting or related roles

Technical Skills

• Underwriting Software Proficiency
• Statistical Analysis

Soft Skills

• Analytical Thinking
• Negotiation Skills

Certifications

• Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Advanced degree in Finance or Insurance: A Master’s degree or similar is highly desirable.
• Certifications in Risk Management: Certifications related to risk management will be beneficial.
