Job Description

As an Adult Literacy Teaching Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting adult learners in improving their literacy skills. Working closely with qualified literacy teachers, you'll assist in the planning and delivery of educational programs tailored to the needs of diverse adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of structured literacy programs tailored to adult learners.
  • Facilitate group discussions and activities to enhance learning experiences.
  • Help create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Assist with designing learning materials suitable for adult education.
  • Provide constructive feedback to learners to encourage progress.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to share insights and improve program effectiveness.
  • Engage in continual learning and incorporate new strategies into teaching.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling learner information.

Requirements

Education
  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Higher education qualification in Education or Social Work
Experience
  • 2+ years' experience in a similar role within an educational setting
Technical Skills
  • Learning management systems experience (e.g. Moodle)
  • Adaptation of learning materials
Soft Skills
  • Team collaboration
  • Crisis management
Certifications
  • Certificate in Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET)
  • Training in special education strategies
Languages
  • English: Fluent
  • Xhosa: Conversational
