Job Description

As a Railroad Brake, Signal, and Switch Operator, you will be responsible for the safe operation of steam locomotives. You’ll engage in various tasks that ensure the efficient running of train services and uphold safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe operation of steam locomotives during journeys.
• Regulate firebox and boiler pressure to optimise steam generation.
• Load and manage fuel supplies, maintaining optimal levels throughout operations.
• Control water levels in tanks and monitor temperature readings diligently.
• Perform pre-journey inspections and post-journey maintenance tasks.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with fellow crew members to achieve seamless operations.
• Assist in training new recruits on operational and safety procedures.

Requirements

Education

• Matric certificate or equivalent
• Additional technical certifications in steam locomotive operations are a bonus

Experience

• Demonstrated experience in steam locomotive operation is advantageous.
