Job Description

As an Insurance Underwriter in our Durban office, you will play a crucial role in evaluating risks and determining policy coverage. Your expertise will help us shape our policies to meet client needs while safeguarding the company’s interests.

Responsibilities

• Assess applications and supporting documents to determine risk levels.
• Liaise with clients to gather necessary information and clarify policy terms.
• Ensure that underwriting practices align with regulatory requirements and company policies.
• Collaborate with claims adjusters to analyze claims related to policies you underwrite.
• Monitor and report on the performance of the insurance portfolio.
• Assist in developing new insurance products based on market demand.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, or related field
• Graduate degree is an advantage

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting or related insurance experience

Technical Skills

• Statistical Analysis
• Insurance Regulation Knowledge

Soft Skills

• Negotiation
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa Certification
• Certified Risk Manager (CRM)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of digital underwriting tools: Familiarity with digital platforms for underwriting processes and analytics.
• Previous experience in claims processing: Experience in handling insurance claims enhances applicant appeal.
