Job Description

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of risk assessment and a proven track record in evaluating insurance applications. You will play a pivotal role in determining acceptable risks and premiums that align with company policies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth reviews of applications and supporting documents.
• Identify emerging risks in the insurance landscape and adjust policies accordingly.
• Collaborate with various departments to facilitate smooth underwriting processes.
• Ensure client satisfaction by providing timely responses to inquiries.
• Maintain accurate records of all underwriting decisions and communications.
• Assess the need for additional information and conduct background checks.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics or Statistics)

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting or risk assessment

Technical Skills

• Data Analysis
• Insurance Software Proficiency

Soft Skills

• Negotiation
• Attention to Detail

Certifications

• Fellowship in the Life Underwriting Training Council (LUTCF)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance: Experience in ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
• Bilingual Skills: Proficiency in another language is advantageous, especially Afrikaans or Xhosa.
