Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Pretoria. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of risk assessment and policy underwriting processes. You will evaluate insurance applications and determine coverage eligibility based on specific criteria, ensuring customer satisfaction while maintaining company standards.

Responsibilities

• Examine market trends and adjust underwriting procedures accordingly.
• Liaise with agents to provide supportive client service.
• Maintain high standards of underwriting quality and accuracy.
• Use statistical analysis to refine risk assessment methods.
• Facilitate training sessions for junior underwriters.
• Monitor and evaluate submitted policies for adherence to risk management procedures.
• Assist in the development of new insurance products.
• Provide mentorship to new staff within the underwriting department.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics or a related field

Experience

• 5+ years of relevant underwriting experience

Technical Skills

• Policy Development
• Market Analysis

Soft Skills

• Negotiation Skills

Certifications

• Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU)
• Professional Risk Manager (PRM)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple underwriting projects and meet deadlines.
• Bilingual abilities: Fluency in Afrikaans or another South African language is a plus.
