Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Patent Paralegal to support our intellectual property team in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of patent law, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Support the patent prosecution process by preparing filings and responses.
• Conduct legal research related to patent law and assist in drafting agreements.
• Interact with clients to provide updates on application statuses.
• Track and manage deadlines for various patent-related activities.
• Assist in the training of junior paralegals within the department.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with inventors and clients.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and best practice discussions.
• Assist in the litigation process by gathering evidence and documents.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in law or related field
• Paralegal diploma or equivalent experience preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in intellectual property law

Technical Skills

• IP Law Expertise
• Familiarity with Patent Software

• Analytical Skills
• Interpersonal Skills

Certifications

• Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Basic
