Job Description

Join our team in Durban as an Insurance Underwriter! In this role, you will evaluate insurance applications, analyze risks, and make informed decisions on coverage. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses excellent judgment, and has a passion for the insurance industry. You will also collaborate with agents and clients to provide exceptional service and perform risk assessments to protect our company’s interests.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate insurance submissions to determine acceptability.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines and criteria.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders about underwriting processes.
  • Provide input into product development from an underwriting perspective.
  • Participate in establishing business goals related to underwriting performance.
  • Monitor underwriting results and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Conduct risk reviews for existing policies and recommend adjustments.
  • Engage in negotiations with brokers and clients to close deals.
  • Facilitate training sessions to ensure team cohesion and knowledge sharing.
  • Assess reinsurance needs and negotiate terms with reinsurers.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or related field
  • Master's degree in Business or Finance is advantageous
Experience
  • 3-5 years of underwriting experience in the insurance industry
