Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Hogshead Cooper to join our skilled team in crafting and repairing barrels, hogsheads, and casks. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the cooperage process and enjoy working with their hands to create high-quality products.

Responsibilities

• Use traditional and modern cooperage techniques to construct barrels.
• Collaborate with other craftsmen in the workshop to improve efficiency and quality.
• Handle various wood types and understand their specific qualities.
• Apply finishes to the barrels, ensuring longevity and aesthetic appeal.
• Maintain tools and equipment in optimal working condition.
• Train apprentices in cooperage skills and safety practices.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Formal training or certification in woodworking or cooperage is beneficial

Experience

• 3+ years in a cooperage or woodworking environment

Technical Skills

• Wood Selection and Treatment
• Fabrication Skills

• Problem-solving
• Time Management

Advantageous

• Previous work in a winery or brewery environment: Experience working in the wine or spirits industry is beneficial.
• Understanding of the aging process: Knowledge of how barrel characteristics influence the aging of spirits.
