Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are seeking an Insurance Underwriter to assess risks and determine appropriate insurance coverage. The successful candidate will analyse information submitted by applicants, evaluate the risks involved, and make informed decisions to ensure profitable underwriting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments using statistical data and industry standards.
• Prepare and issue quotes and policy documents.
• Provide mentorship to junior underwriters.
• Develop strong relationships with brokers and clients.
• Participate in external training and professional development opportunities.
• Ensure adherence to compliance regulations and ethical standards.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance or Business Administration
• Postgraduate study in finance or a related field is beneficial

Experience

• 4+ years of experience in the insurance industry

Technical Skills

• Insurance Knowledge
• Data Analysis Tools

• Negotiation Skills
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Fellow of the Insurance Institute (F.I.I.)
• Professional Risk Manager (PRM)

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Bilingual skills: Ability to communicate in Afrikaans is advantageous.
