Responsibilities

• Assess risk associated with insurance applications and make decisions on coverage.
• Analyze statistical data and financial records to determine underwriting criteria.
• Collaborate with the sales team to provide insights on policy structures.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks to reduce loss ratios.
• Review claim history to inform underwriting standards.
• Assist in training junior underwriters on best practices.
• Create and maintain underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Handle queries and provide support to agents regarding underwriting decisions.
• Present underwriting findings to senior management when required.
• Support marketing efforts by providing technical expertise.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in underwriting and risk assessment

• Financial Analysis

Certifications

• Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Additional certification in insurance risk: Certification in specialized areas of insurance will be considered an advantage.
• Bilingual in English and Afrikaans: Being able to converse in Afrikaans will be a plus for customer engagement.
