Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our Durban team. In this role, you will evaluate applications, analyze risks, and determine coverage and pricing for various insurance products. The ideal candidate should be able to effectively assess risk while ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze insurance applications to assess risk.
• Consult with financial institutions and stakeholders regarding underwriting processes.
• Design tailored insurance packages that meet client needs.
• Monitor market trends to ensure competitive pricing.
• Communicate effectively with brokers and clients to ensure understanding of policies.
• Investigate claims to verify accuracy and prevent fraud.
• Document underwriting decisions and maintain accurate records.
• Evaluate existing policies for renewal and adjustments.
• Assist with special projects as directed by management.
• Foster positive relationships with stakeholders across the insurance industry.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, or related field
• Postgraduate qualification in Insurance or related field (preferred)

Experience

• 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting with a focus on commercial insurance

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Familiarity with underwriting software and databases: Experience with industry-standard underwriting platforms and tools.
