Job Description

As an Appellate Immigration Judge, you will preside over appeals from immigration judges, ensuring fair and impartial hearings. Your role is crucial in interpreting immigration law and shaping the future of individuals and families seeking justice.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate immigration appeals and render judicious decisions.
  • Facilitate hearings and maintain order in the court.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, and the public.
  • Continuously update knowledge on immigration law developments.
  • Supervise legal staff involved in case preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with legal standards and procedures.
  • Develop community outreach to explain immigration processes.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development.
  • Engage with other judges and legal professionals in discussions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethics in all judicial matters.

Requirements

Education
  • LLB or equivalent law degree
  • Membership with the Law Society of South Africa
Experience
  • 10 years of post-admission experience specifically in immigration law
