Underwriter

Job Description

We are looking for an Underwriter to join our reputable firm in Port Elizabeth. You will play a vital role in evaluating and underwriting insurance risks while ensuring that all processes comply with industry regulations. Ideal candidates will have experience in assessing applications, preparing quotes, and building strong relationships with clients and brokers.

Responsibilities

• Assess the insurability of applications and calculate premiums.
• Investigate complex applications and seek additional information as necessary.
• Advise clients on policy terms and coverage options.
• Support risk management initiatives and engage in loss control measures.
• Review policy renewals and make appropriate changes as necessary.
• Work closely with the claims department to resolve any issues.
• Participate in underwriting audits and ensure continuous improvement.
• Analyze market trends to identify new opportunities.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, or a relevant field
• Fellowship or other further qualifications would be beneficial

Experience

• 4+ years of experience in underwriting or risk assessment

Technical Skills

• Insurance Law Knowledge
• Data Analysis

Soft Skills

• Negotiation

Certifications

• CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter)
• AINS (Associate in General Insurance)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with Statistical Analysis tools: Familiarity with data analysis platforms used in underwriting.
• Proficiency in Excel and Spreadsheets: Strong skills in spreadsheets for data organization and analysis.
