Job Description

As a Special Education Teacher focused on learning disabilities, you will design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) while creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment. Your role will be crucial in supporting students' unique learning needs and fostering their academic success.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement IEPs tailored to individual needs of learners with disabilities.
• Foster a supportive, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
• Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support student well-being.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth to stay updated on best practices.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior.
• Participate in meetings with parents and other stakeholders to discuss student development.
• Utilize assistive technology and resources to enhance learning experiences.
• Create a collaborative environment by working closely with colleagues.
• Participate in workshops and training sessions related to special education.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Education with a focus on Special Education
• Postgraduate qualification in Special Education is preferred

Experience

• Minimum 3 years teaching students with learning disabilities

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of education assessment tools
• Behavior management techniques

Soft Skills

• Adaptability
• Conflict resolution

Certifications

• Valid teaching certification in South Africa
• Advanced certifications in special education are beneficial

Languages

• English: Fluent
• isiZulu: Basic

Advantageous

• Training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Certification or training in working with children on the autism spectrum.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed educational practices: Experience in supporting students from traumatic backgrounds.
