Mechanical Design Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead our design team in developing high-quality mechanical systems and products. The successful candidate will have a robust background in mechanical engineering, project management, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Manage design projects from concept through to execution.
• Drive innovation and design optimization initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with production and quality assurance teams.
• Prepare and present project proposals and design reports.
• Monitor project progress and adjust resources as necessary.
• Evaluate design performance and implement necessary modifications.
• Conduct risk assessments to mitigate potential design issues.
• Develop documentation for mechanical designs, including specifications and manuals.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• PhD in related field preferred

Experience

• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design management

Technical Skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

Soft Skills

• Critical Thinking
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Lean Six Sigma Certification
• Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE)

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Xhosa: Conversational

Advantageous

• Experience with Robotics and Automation: Hands-on experience with robotic systems and automation in manufacturing.
• Familiarity with Industry 4.0 Concepts: Understanding of smart manufacturing and IoT.
