Job Description

The Activities Aide will be responsible for planning and implementing activities that enhance the physical, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing of residents in a care facility. This role requires creativity, empathy, and a passion for improving the lives of elderly individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing recreational activities for residents.
  • Encourage residents to participate in activities and events.
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning up activity areas.
  • Provide one-on-one activities for residents unable to participate in group activities.
  • Document resident participation and report changes in behavior or mood.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to tailor activities to resident needs.
  • Create and suggest new ideas for recreational programs.
  • Monitor and report on the safety and enjoyment of activities for residents.
  • Foster a supportive and positive environment for all residents.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to recreational therapy.

Requirements

Education
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Certificate or diploma in recreational therapy or related field is preferred
Experience
  • No experience required. Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals is an advantage.

Advantageous

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting: Hands-on experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Training in First Aid and CPR: Certification in First Aid and CPR enhances candidate suitability.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles: Understanding of principles to enhance resident wellbeing through programmes.
  • Fluent in more than one language: Ability to communicate with a diverse resident population.
  • Flexible with scheduling: Availability to work evenings and weekends preferred.
