Hotbed Operator

Job Description

As a Hotbed Operator, you will oversee the management of hotbeds essential for the propagation of plant species. This role requires keen attention to environmental conditions, and the ability to adapt them for optimal plant growth, ensuring compliance with regulations and company standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain hotbeds and greenhouse structures.
• Monitor and adjust environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light levels.
• Plant, water, fertilize, and prune plants as needed.
• Harvest and package crops for distribution.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Keep accurate records of production activities and plant health.
• Assist in the testing of new plant varieties and technologies.
• Cooperate with vendors for the delivery of supplies and materials.
• Contribute to team meetings and suggest improvements for processes.

Requirements

Education

• Matric certificate or equivalent
• Some tertiary education in agriculture or horticulture preferred

Experience

• No specific experience required; however, some experience in agriculture or horticulture would be an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Attention to detail
• Basic knowledge of plant biology
• Ability to use and maintain equipment

Soft Skills

• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
