Special Education Teacher

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a passionate Special Education Teacher to implement and adapt curricula tailored to meet the needs of children in our kindergarten program. The ideal candidate will work closely with families and interdisciplinary teams to support each child's developmental and learning goals.

Responsibilities

• Create a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with diverse learning needs.
• Conduct assessments to identify student strengths and areas for development.
• Design classroom activities to improve both social skills and academic learning.
• Support students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum.
• Foster strong relationships with families to support student learning at home.
• Team up with specialists to provide holistic support to students.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress for reporting and accountability.
• Engage in community outreach initiatives to promote inclusion.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
• Postgraduate qualification in Special Education is an advantage

Experience

• 3+ years of experience working in inclusive educational settings

Technical Skills

• Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
• Adaptive Learning Strategies

Soft Skills

• Creativity
• Conflict Resolution

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Proficient

Advantageous

• Experience in inclusive classroom settings: Proficiency in implementing inclusive practices within the classroom environment.
• Training in Occupational Therapy techniques: Knowledge of OT practices to support the development of fine motor skills.
