Job Description

As a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, you will work alongside experienced speech therapists to support clients with communication and swallowing difficulties. Your role will encompass conducting assessments, implementing treatment strategies, and monitoring patient progress, ensuring that our clients receive the best care possible.

Responsibilities

  • Help patients with exercises and activities designed to improve communication skills.
  • Ensure that therapy sessions are conducted in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
  • Document patient evaluations and developments accurately.
  • Aid in organizing and preparing teaching materials.
  • Support speech therapists in administrative tasks related to patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to case strategies.
  • Advise families on how to support their loved ones' therapy at home.
  • Stay informed of new methods and best practices in speech therapy.
  • Contribute to the overall goals of the speech therapy department.
  • Possibly assist in research related to speech therapy practices.

Requirements

Education
  • Certificate in Speech Therapy Assistance
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech Therapy Assistant
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a speech therapy assistant role
Technical Skills
  • Microsoft Office
  • Speech therapy software (e.g., Articulate It!)
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Teamwork
Languages
  • English: Fluent
  • Afrikaans: Basic

Advantageous

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting: Previous experience in any healthcare role will be beneficial.
  • Familiarity working with children or adults with communication challenges: Experience working with a variety of clients for effective treatment.
