Job Description

The Insurance Underwriter plays a crucial role in evaluating insurance applications and assessing risks. This position requires analytical skills and a meticulous approach to ensure compliance with regulations while delivering tailored insurance policies to clients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments for various insurance products and clients.
• Prepare reports and make presentations on underwriting information.
• Respond to inquiries from policyholders and brokers in a timely manner.
• Monitor market trends to adjust underwriting practices as needed.
• Collaborate with the sales team to develop tailored insurance solutions.
• Guide junior underwriters in evaluating complex cases.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Economics or Insurance
• Master's degree is preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in an underwriting position

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of Insurance Regulations
• Data Analysis Tools

Soft Skills

• Negotiation
• Problem-solving

Certifications

• Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA)
• Underwriting Certificate from a recognized institution

Languages

• English: Fluent
