Structural Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join our team in Durban. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, review, and implementation of structural projects. You will ensure that all structures meet safety standards and client specifications while working collaboratively with architects and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain structural designs for a range of projects, ensuring safety and functionality.
• Participate in project meetings and provide engineering insights.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications.
• Perform structural assessments of existing buildings and recommend retrofitting solutions.
• Liaise with clients to gather requirements and feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all stages of the project.
• Utilise advanced engineering software for modelling and simulations.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Professional registration with ECSA is preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in structural engineering

Technical Skills

• Structural Analysis Software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS)
• AutoCAD

Soft Skills

• Detail-oriented
• Strong communication skills

Certifications

• Certified Structural Engineer (CSE)
• Project Management Professional (PMP) is advantageous

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with Autodesk Revit: Knowledge of BIM software to enhance design processes.
• Familiarity with green building practices: Understanding of sustainable design principles and materials.
