Job Description

As a Narrow Gauge Brakeman, you will work closely with the Railroad Engineer to ensure the safe operation of our trains on narrow gauge tracks. This role demands strong communication skills and attention to detail to effectively assist and support the railway operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand and air brakes on the train.
• Check couplings and inspect the train before departure for safety.
• Assist the Train Driver during the trip by monitoring train operations.
• Communicate with other members of the train crew using hand signals and radios.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Conduct emergency response drills as required.
• Maintain clear and precise documentation of train operations.
• Assist in training new crew members and interns.
• Perform other duties as required by supervisors.

Requirements

Education

• Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent

Experience

• Experience in the railroad industry will be beneficial.

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Additional qualifications in engineering: Qualifications in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering are preferred.
• Familiarity with narrow gauge railroad tracks and equipment: Knowledge and experience with narrow gauge systems and tools.
