Job Description

Join our fast-paced team in Cape Town as an Insurance Underwriter, where you will evaluate applications and determine coverage amounts based on comprehensive research and risk analysis. You will collaborate closely with agents and other stakeholders to facilitate a seamless insurance process.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze insurance applications and supporting documents.
• Assess risks and exposures associated with potential clients.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure customer needs are met.
• Provide insights for improving underwriting processes.
• Document all underwriting decisions and maintain records.
• Conduct follow-ups on pending applications and clarify any queries.
• Optimize underwriting guidelines to streamline processes.
• Participate in meetings to discuss underwriting policies and strategies.
• Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Support the implementation of new insurance products.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, or related discipline

Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in a relevant underwriting role

Technical Skills

• Data Analysis
• Regulatory Knowledge

Certifications

• Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) Certification

Languages

• Afrikaans: Fluent
• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with underwriting software: Familiarity with software tools such as Guidewire or similar.
• Keen understanding of policy guidelines: Strong grasp of insurance clauses and policies.
