Job Description

We are on the hunt for a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Johannesburg. You will be responsible for evaluating insurance applications, determining risks, and making informed underwriting decisions. As part of our team, you will also work closely with brokers and clients to ensure the best solutions are provided.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough risk assessments and make underwriting judgments.
• Coordinate with the claims department to understand the implications of claims history on underwriting.
• Keep abreast of market conditions and regulatory developments affecting underwriting practices.
• Assist in developing training materials for junior underwriters.
• Engage in peer reviews to ensure quality control in underwriting.
• Enhance client relationships through excellent communication and support.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, Business or related field
• Postgraduate qualification in Risk Management is advantageous

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in insurance underwriting, particularly in commercial lines

• Risk Management

Certifications

• Fellowship in Insurance (FI)

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Advanced Excel Skills: Proficient in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
