Library Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Technician. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure smooth operations and maintain an environment conducive to learning in the library.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the order and cleanliness of the library premises.
• Assist library users in locating books and resources.
• Issue library materials and manage the borrowing process.
• Receive and shelve returned books in their appropriate sections.
• Assist in cataloging and organizing library resources.
• Perform routine checks on library equipment and report any issues.
• Support library events and activities, such as book clubs and workshops.
• Contribute to maintaining an up-to-date library inventory.
• Monitor and enforce library rules and regulations.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification in library science or a related field is preferred

Experience

• Prior experience working in a library environment or related customer service role is desirable.

Technical Skills

• Library management systems (e.g., Koha, Evergreen)
• Microsoft Office Suite

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Afrikaans: Conversational

Advantageous

• Knowledge of library classification systems and cataloging standards.: Familiarity with Dewey Decimal System and other library classification methods.
• Familiarity with digital library resources and online databases.: Experience utilizing digital tools and online databases for resource retrieval.
