Insurance Underwriter

Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our Port Elizabeth team. In this role, you will assess risks and determine the eligibility of applicants for insurance coverage. You will analyze applicants’ financial status, creditworthiness, and overall risk profile to make informed decisions that benefit both the company and our clients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments for potential policyholders.
• Determine appropriate coverage levels and policy premiums.
• Review all application materials for completeness and accuracy.
• Collaborate with brokers to gather necessary information.
• Evaluate the impact of claims history on underwriting decisions.
• Ensure adherence to company policies regarding underwriting standards.
• Participate in continuous education programs to stay current.
• Assist in developing underwriting guidelines for new policies.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, or related field

Experience

• 3-5 years of prior underwriting experience

• Insurance Regulations

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience in health and life insurance underwriting: Additional experience in underwriting health or life insurance policies.
