Mental Health Counselor

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to supporting individuals in their journey toward mental well-being, employing evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques. Previous experience in a clinical setting is essential, as is a deep commitment to client-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate care while respecting client confidentiality.
• Maintain a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.
• Utilize culturally sensitive practices in counseling sessions.
• Participate in internal training and professional development workshops.
• Engage in supervision sessions to review client cases and therapeutic approaches.
• Implement feedback from supervisors to refine counseling techniques.
• Aid clients in developing coping skills and resilience.
• Network with local community resources to provide clients with additional support.
• Assist in the creation of educational materials for client workshops.
• Support the administrative team with client-related documentation as necessary.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field
• Master's degree in Clinical Psychology preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Behavioral Therapy

Soft Skills

• Active Listening
• Interpersonal Skills

Certifications

• HPCSA Registered Psychological Counselor
• Specialist training in Trauma-Informed Care preferred

Languages

• English: Fluent
• isiXhosa: Conversational

Advantageous

• Familiarity with mental health legislation: Knowledge of the laws and regulations affecting mental health practice in South Africa.
