Materials Development Engineer

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a skilled Materials Development Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg. This role involves developing new materials and improving existing ones for our automotive products. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve material-related challenges and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop innovative materials for automotive applications.
• Conduct comprehensive material testing and ensure quality assurance.
• Work with product design teams to resolve materials-related challenges.
• Maintain thorough documentation of all material development processes.
• Monitor material performance and suggest improvements.
• Implement best practices in materials development and testing.
• Assist in the training and mentorship of junior engineers.
• Engage with suppliers and vendors related to material sourcing.
• Evaluate new technologies and methods in materials science.
• Foster a culture of safety and excellence in materials management.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
• Master's degree in a related field preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience working with polymers and composites

Certifications

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
• Lean Manufacturing Certification

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Hands-on experience with composite materials: Practical experience in the handling and testing of composite materials.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment: Work experience within a manufacturing setting is preferred.
