Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our dedicated team in Durban. The ideal candidate will assess risk, review insurance applications, and make crucial decisions about coverage. This role requires strong analytical skills and a keen understanding of risk factors.

Responsibilities

• Implement underwriting guidelines and policies.
• Negotiate coverage terms with brokers and clients.
• Utilize software for risk assessment and portfolio management.
• Train junior staff on underwriting processes and best practices.
• Participate in market analysis to identify trends and opportunities.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field
• Advanced certifications in insurance or finance are advantageous

Experience

• Minimum 4 years experience in the insurance sector with a focus on underwriting

• Policy Drafting
• Financial Modelling

• Analytical Thinking
• Negotiation Skills

Certifications

• Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI)
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is preferred
