Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our dedicated team in Durban. The ideal candidate will assess risk, review insurance applications, and make crucial decisions about coverage. This role requires strong analytical skills and a keen understanding of risk factors.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data to compute risk premiums for various insurance products.
• Consult with clients to assess their insurance needs and provide recommendations.
• Prepare reports detailing underwriting decisions and risk assessments.
• Work with the claims department to resolve disputes or complex cases.
• Engage in continued education to stay updated on industry trends and guidelines.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field
• Advanced certifications in insurance or finance are advantageous

Experience

• Minimum 4 years experience in the insurance sector with a focus on underwriting

Technical Skills

• Policy Drafting
• Financial Modelling

Soft Skills

• Analytical Thinking
• Negotiation Skills

Certifications

• Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI)
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is preferred

Languages

• English: Fluent
• Zulu: Conversational

• Prior experience in claims adjustment: Background in assessing claims to streamline underwriting processes.
