Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Underwriter to join our Durban team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing risks and determining appropriate coverage levels for various insurance policies. This role requires analytical thinking and strong decision-making skills to ensure accurate and fair underwriting practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze market trends to align underwriting strategies with industry standards.
• Provide guidance to less experienced underwriting staff.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in all underwriting processes.
• Consult with legal advisors regarding unusual or complex risks.
• Participate in risk management initiatives to mitigate potential losses.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science is preferred
• Master's degree in Business Administration or Finance is a plus

Experience

• 5+ years in the insurance underwriting field or related experience

Certifications

• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
